Billingborough make perfect start to defence of Pattinson Cup
ON Wednesday Billingborough Cricket Club began their defence of the Pattinson Cup against Graves Park.
Billingborough started strongly again in the field, restricting Graves Park to 94 for seven off their allotted 18 overs.
With Newman in majestic form with the bat, Billingborough easily knocked off the required runs without the loss of a single wicket. They made 95-0 off 15 overs, with Newman undefeated on 66.
* Billingborough hosted Bourne on Saturday in the South Lincs and Border League.
Captain Goodwin won the toss and elected to put Bourne in to bat, aware of the visitors' reputation for being good in the field.
It proved a wise decision as the Billingborough attack performed well yet again, with the bowlers dividing the wickets between them.
Roy Tilley and Steve Scott each took three wickets, while Mark Joyce and and David Gollop claimed two apiece as Bourne were dismissed for 107.
For once Billingborough's normally prolific openers Joyce and Newman failed to make their mark, with Bourne's bowlers proving too strong for Joyce, as he fell after just getting the one run.
Newman lasted slightly longer to notch up 14 but the main innings came from David Gollop and Andrew Wilson, who both scored 28.
Ben Smith chipped in with a knock of 17, as Billingborough reached 108-5 to win the game.
