Bowlers end season with three defeats

Sleaford Town Bowls Club

TOWN bowlers brought their season to a close with four games last week.

At home to Moorlands Railway in the EBA League, Town took the honours with two rink wins and an aggregate victory of 68-46 to claim eight points. J Gilbert, M Titley, D Curt and T Cope won 32-12; N Mapletoft, R Neaverson, P Musson and P Jobson won 22-19; P Adkin, J Parker, R Lupton and Richard Barnes lost 14-15.

But at Moorlands in the District League Sleaford could only manage one drawn rink to secure just one league point, going down on aggregate 56-117. N Mapletoft, G Turner and A Bird drew 19-19; P Annison, K Dye and P Musson lost 9-32; R Wilson, J Cope and P Jobson lost 14-32; J Gilbert, B Gilbert and T Cope lost 14-34.

Entertaining local rivals Eslaforde Park in the Sleaford League, Town lost 75-88 on aggregate and picked up just two points for a rink win, while the visitors collected 10 points. J Gilbert, K Dye and E Bird won 33-14; P Annison, P Stokes and G Turner lost 17-19, despite scoring a six on the last end; P Adkin, A Upsall and R Lupton lost 14-26; R Wilson, M Jarrald and R Markham lost 11-29.

In the concluding game of the season away at Heckington, rink wins were shared two apiece but it was Heckington who secured the aggregate win, Town losing 70-76. Sleaford picked up four points and Heckington eight. Rose Barnes, J Cope and A Bird won 21-19; W Roberts, R Neaverson and J Parker won 16-13; L Jobson, P Adkin and R Lupton lost 12-22; K Hopwood, K Dye and J Gilbert lost 21-22.
