Defeat in first friendly of season

The first game of the new season saw Sleaford Indoor Bowls Club’s friendly team travel to Stamford.

Sleaford fielded eight members who had never played in a match before .

Mike Summerhayes, Irene Forrester, Margaret McKie and Chris Bradley took the lead after three ends and went on to win 23-18.

Alan Horne, Helen Quirke, Bob McKie and Colin Grosse were aided by a six and a five to earn a creditable draw, 19-19.

New team captain John Bennett, with Gloria Davies, Ross Harwood and Phil Bacon dropped a five and a six in the first half but fought back before narrowly losing 20-22.

Larry Davies, Audrey Ellison, Nancy Ahmed and Ann Upsall lost 10-26; Bill Ellison, Ken Searle, Niel Dallas and Bill Forrester lost 12-32 and Lily Searle, Joy Bradley, Trish Marland and Allan Clark lost 6-30.
