EBA victory stops the rot after a week of very disappointing results

Sleaford Town Bowls

IT was a quieter week for Sleaford Town bowlers, with just four matches.

Starting with an away game at league leaders St Giles, Town picked up only one rink win and two points. P Jobson, P Annison, P Musson won 24-16; J Parker, D Curt and D Smith lost 16-20; N Mapletoft, B Gilbert and A Bird lost 20-26; E Bird, R Markham and R Barnes lost 14-29.

Away at Digby in the Sleaford League, Town again picked up just two points for one rink win while their hosts secured 10 points. P Stokes, A Upsall and P Musson won 22-15; R Bird, L Morris and A Bird lost 15-16; K Hopwood, S Morris and R Markham lost 14-20; L Jobson, P Annison and B Gilbert lost 9-19.

Entertaining Heckington, Sleaford won on two rinks but could not prevent their visitors taking the aggregate score 68-76 and eight points to Town’s four. P Adkins, M Jarrald and R Lupton won 22-12; N Mapletoft, A Upsall and D Curt won 20-18; Rose Barnes, P Annison and J Parker lost 13-26; W Roberts, C Frain and J Gilbert lost 13-20.

Town did pick up a win at the end of the week Away at Grantham in the EBA League, winning on two rinks to take the aggregate score 56-35 and eight points. N Mapletoft, G Turner, P Musson and A Bird won 27-7; K Hopwood, M Jarrald, B Gilbert and R Markham won 14-12; P Annison, E Bird, J Parker and D Smith lost 15-16.

n The President’s day tournament was contested on Sunday with 24 sets competing.

The winners after an extra end were T Hudson, R Lockey and T Bannister, who overcame the challenge of P Annison, T Ingham and R Musson 8-7.

Runners-up from each group were A Bristow’s trio and A Crossman’s trio.

n In the District League finals day competition, J Wareham and G Turner beat a pair from Moorlands Railway in the ladies pairs’ semi-final by two shots, but in the final they lost by two shots to a pair from Norman House.
