Champions give Sleaford a roasting
DEFENDING Lincolnshire ECB Premier Division champions Bracebridge Heath destroyed Sleaford with both bat and ball in a 200 run annihilation on Saturday.
Any hopes Sleaford might have had of gaining some home advantage soon evaporated as the champions underlined their pedigree with a towering batting performance at London Road.
They hit the highest score of the day in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League, reaching 305 for eight in their allotted overs, with half centuries from Nick John (78), Paul Cook (64) and Mark Fell (53).
Jonathan Miller picked up five wickets for Sleaford at a cost of 91 runs.
Bracebridge then went on to take a maximum 20 points by reducing Sleaford to 105 all out to win by a huge margin of 200 runs, South African Tom Khoza taking five for 29.
The result means Sleaford are second from bottom in the table, while Bracebridge consolidated their position at the top.
Although Sleaford's form of late has been disappointing, the fortunes of Market Deeping have seen a dramatic upturn. Two weeks ago, they were bottom of the table, last week they were fifth and now they have climbed to third place following a high scoring game at Bourne.
Although Bourne set a daunting target, scoring 282 for five, with Chris Dring making the highest individual total of the day with 120, and Craig Williams making 95, Deeping took the points with a four wicket victory. They made 287 for six, of which Lee Peacock made an undefeated 105.
Woodhall Spa topped the 300 mark as they finally found some batting form. Warren Nel hit 110 and Conrad Louth 64 to help the total to 304 for three, but opponents Louth were also in good batting form, Jim Morgan making 102 as the visitors reached 261 for six at the close.
Results: Messingham 83 (McKay 5-43), Nettleham 85-7; Bracebridge Heath 305-8 (John 78, P Cook 64, Fell 53, Miller 5-91), Sleaford 105 (Khoza 5-29); Bourne 282-5 (Dring 120, Williams 95), Market Deeping 287-6 (Peacock 105no, Wright 88, Andrews 71); Woodhall Spa 304-3 (Nel 110, Louth 64), Louth 261-6 (Morgan 102); Grimsby 248-8 (Perrera 116no, Crossley 53, Wijerathne 5-72), Caistor 141;
