Another fragile batting display, characterised by injudicious strokeplay, consigned Sleaford first XI Eleven to a disappointing defeat by Market Deeping in the ECB Premier League, when they failed to overhaul their visitors’ score on a perfect batting surface to go down to a 24-run defeat.

Bowling first after winning the toss Sleaford, sponsored by Wright Vigar, produced an excellent bowling display to restrict their opponents to a total of 219 for the loss of eight wickets in their 50 overs. The innings relied almost entirely on a century from Emile Kriek but the total looked well short of what was required in the conditions.

Sleaford’s early batting contrived to completely throw away the advantage gained by their bowlers with the first six wickets falling before the score had reached 100. Oliver Burford with 47 and Rhys Collings with 38 regained some respectability for their side but they were ultimately unable to seize back the initiative that had been squandered by the top order batsmen.

In the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division, Sleaford recorded an emphatic victory by 186 runs at Moulton Harrox with Sumit Puri featuring with both bat and ball.

Sleaford first XI, sponsored by Specsavers, recorded a narrow win at Lincoln Lindum on Sunday, whilst The Academy, sponsored by Turnbulls, defeated Bucyrus by six wickets with Kurt Colyn falling one run short of his century.

This weekend, Sleaford travel to Bourne in the ECB Premier League whilst the reverse fixture takes place at Sleaford in the South Lincs and Border Premier League. On Sunday, Middle Rasen visit Sleaford in the Lincoln League Premier Division, with The Academy travelling to Horncastle. The home fixtures begin at 1.30pm and 2pm respectively, and spectators are welcome at both matches.
