Basement side make Sleaford work hard for victory

SLEAFORD claimed another win in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League on Saturday but their defeat of bottom markers Hartsholme was not their most convincing performance of the season.

Hartsholme batted first and Sleaford were in generous mood, giving away 17 wides out of 22 extras. They also suffered from some over-enthusiastic fielding, with a number of overthrows.

Hartsholme battled their way to a very respectable 203 for 9 in their 50 overs, with Henry Rush top scoring on 80 not out.

Alex Sears and Garry Park each claimed three wickets.

Sleaford reached the required target with just over 6 overs to spare but they lost seven wickets in the process.

Skipper Oliver Burford steadied the ship with a fine 52 to ease any Sleaford nerves. Opener Matt Mountain scored 44.

Hartsholme 203-9 (Rush 80no; Sears 3-40; Park 3-55), Sleaford 204-7 (Burford 52; Mountain 44).

n IN a Lincoln League Division One game at home to Millers, Sleaford won by seven wickets.

Batting first, Millers made 179 for 8, with opener Geordie Scott making 70 and 30 extras adding to the score.

Rickett was Sleaford’s main wicket taker with figures of 4-31 off 10 overs.

An undefeated 65 from Jonny Adams was the backbone of the Sleaford reply and, with Morris (35) and Burrows (40) chipping in with useful runs, they reached the target in just over 35 overs.

Millers 179-8 Scott 70; Rickett 4-31; Sleaford 180-3 (Adams 65no; Burrows 40; Morris 35)

n Defeats for Skegness and Woodhall Spa and wins for Haxey and Bracebridge Heath left the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League table wide open once again.

Skegness’ lead was cut to seven points after a devastating spell from Jon Darke saw the Bracebridge Heath bowler take six wickets for just two runs and reduce the seasiders from 74 for two to 76 for eight.

Darke finished with six for 26 as Skegness were all out for 119 chasing their opponents’ total of 198 for seven of which Brett Houston hit 57.

Woodhall Spa went down to a resurgent Lindum side who made it three wins in successive weeks.
