THE final of the inaugural Invitational Cup competition, introduced to replace the former Pattinson Cup, was held last week at Sleaford Cricket Club.

Like most summer sports this year, the event has been dogged by the wet weather but it reached its conclusion when Billingborough, appearing in their eighth consecutive final (including the Pattinson Cup), took on a Sleaford side.

At the end of the first innings on Wednesday, Sleaford held a slender three run lead and batting first on Thursday they added another 125 runs, setting Billingborough a target of 129 for victory.

However, for once, the six-time Pattinson Cup champions fell short of the required total, with Sleaford the first to get their hands on the new trophy.

The competition was sponsored by Four Seasons Garden Centre.
