Sleaford hold their nerve

SLEAFORD Cricket Club moved into fifth in the ECB Premier Lague following their victory which saw Haxey collapse after a good start, Nick Goacher and Garry Park doing the damage for the home side.

Matthew Mountain and Jonathan Adams got Sleaford off to a similar start and despite two run outs and a minor middle order collapse, Tom Shorthouse (37no) and Sam Gascoyne saw their side come away with 20 points.

Winning the toss they put Haxey in to bat on the first warm Saturday of the season.

Haxey soon had a good score on the board reaching 83 before the first wicket fell. After that Sleaford claimed the upper hand, wickets falling regularly off tight bowling and good fielding, and limiting Haxey to 150.

Sam Burrows and Garry Park both took three wickets each and Nick Goacher two wickets for just 24 runs.

Sleaford’s reply followed the same pattern with Matt Mountain (39) and Johnny Adams (28) reaching 80 before Adams was clean bowled.

The wickets began to fall at regular intervals with Park and Burford both dismissed without scoring. Nerves were beginning to show until Tom Shorthouse was joined by Sam Gasgoyne and these two saw Sleaford to a well deserved win.

l Next week the team are away to Hartsholme.

Lincolnshire ECB Premier League results: Hartsholme 110-9, Boston 111-0; Grimsby 121, Skegness 124-8;

Haxey 150, Sleaford 151-6; Lindum 263-7, Market Deeping 150 (Bowers 58); Bourne v Louth – cancelled, waterlogged pitch
