Athletic enjoy memorable season

FORMED in 2006, Ancaster Athletic Junior Football Club has just enjoyed it most successful season.

Playing in the Grantham Youth League, Ancaster’s under-9s completed the league and cup double and remained unbeaten all through the season, while the under-10s won their cop competition and finished runners up in their league.

The Club’s oldest age group side, the under-13s, matched the exploits of the under 9s and won their league and cup double and also finished the season undefeated.

The under-11’s, under the guidance of new management, finished the season strongly and claimed third spot in their campaign and won their league’s Fair Play Award.

It was a tough year for the under-12s, who won their league shield the previous season, but found that a hard act to follow and ended this campaign by propping up their league.

At the club’s presentations on Saturday, all the club members received a trophy in recognition of their efforts for the season. This was followed by the presentation of awards for Manager’s Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, Players’ Player of the Year and Top Scorer in each age group.

The evening was brought to a conclusion with the main club awards. These were won by: Steff Spencer Award - the under-10s team; Most Improved Player – Joe Spencer (under-13s); Fair Play – Seb Edwards (under-10s); Committee Award – Max Wilkinson (under-11s).

Ancaster Atheltic Junior Football Club began with just one side but has grown sicne then and can now field seven teams from under-7s to under-13s,
