Grantham & District Sunday League Knockout Cup Second round

Ruskington 2 Caythorpe 2 (aet) (Ruskington won 5-4 on penalties)

Caythorpe followed up the previous week’s 6-4 victory over Ropsley with a dramatic game against Premier Division side Ruskington.

The visitors dominated midfield possession throughout and finally went in front in the second half when Duncan Macpherson volleyed home Richard Welby’s cross.

Ruskington levelled in injury time to take the game to extra time.

Caythorpe regained the lead after Rob Dixon floated in a cross to Macpherson, who nodded down for Welby to slot home. Ruskington then equalised again in the second period of extra time, heralding a penalty shoot-out, eventually won by Ruskington.

Man of the match for Caythorpe was goalkeeper Komives Flavio.

Ropsley 1 Helpringham Rovers 1 (aet) (Ropsley won 4-2 on penalties)

Ropsley booked their place in the next round of the cup after they knocked out Helpringham Rovers on penalties.

Ropsley took the lead mid-way through the first half when striker Rich Healey was tripped in the box. Healey stepped forward to lash home the spot kick.

Helpringham levelled the scores on the hour mark when they capitalised on a mix-up in the Ropsley defence to draw level.

After both sides went close late on and in extra time, the game went to penalties.

James Noon, Loz Fiorentino, Ryan Wilson-Law and Chris Greenaway all converted their penalties for Ropsley, with goalkeeper Neil Graham making two saves, as his side won the penalty shoot-out to book their place in the third round.
