CGB grab late winner in ‘ugly’ game

Lincolnshire League

CGB Hunbertherm 1

Heckington United 0

HECKINGTON travelled to Fulstow to play a team they had already beaten at home earlier in the season.

CGB won the league title a few years ago but have had an indifferent start to this season.

On a wet uneven surface, passing football became a bit of a lottery but Heckington created enough clear cut chances to have won the game.

The first chance fell to Luke Hollingworth after a good ball across the box by Lee Llewellyn. The normally cool finish of Hollingworth was missing on this occasion as he found the legs of the keeper with all the goal to aim at.

Zak Zablockskyj had a chance but blasted high and wide after Ewan Clarke flicked on a Hollingworth corner.

With CGB looking for the long ball over the Heckington defence, the game was an ugly spectacle.

More shots from Llewellyn, Robinson and Hollingworth failed to trouble the home keeper as the teams went in to half time still locked together at 0-0.

It was more of the same in the second half, with the best chance falling to skipper Paul Reece, who timed a great late run into the far post area only to shoot over from eight yards.

The home team then scored the only goal with only six minutes remaining. Heckingon had a promising six-man attack when they again gave the ball away. The resulting counter-attack by CGB saw a left wing cross find a glancing header from a home striker and the ball went past Terry off a post.

Heckington United: Terry: Garfoot, Wilson, Forwood, Charlton; Robinson, Reece, Zablockskyj, Llewellyn; Clarke, Hollingworth. Subs: Allen, Meldrum, Starbuck
