Pointon Juniors U12 3 - 2 Spilsby Juniors U12

Pointon Juniors knew that their second game in the Mid Lincs League was going to be a tough one but the coaches were on tender hooks right up until the final whistle.

Pointon hosted Spilsby Juniors on Sunday and got off to a slow start with a mix up between the keeper and defence gifting Spilsby an early goal. Shortly after this some good midfield play by Harvey resulted in Oliver having a great shot cleared off the post and line.

Pointon pressed and after several missed attempts Alex crossed the ball in to the penalty area and Colby slotted it past the keeper with his left foot. A quick break by Spilsby just before half time resulted in another goal and Pointon going in 2-1 down.

Following a good talking to, Pointon came out for the second half with fire in their bellies and continually pushed and had numerous shots blocked and three more hit the woodwork. When it looked like it just wasn’t Pointon’s day Colby converted a deflection past the Spilsby Keeper making it 2-2.

Pointon felt the win coming and in the dying minutes Harvey won a free kick which Alex crossed resulting in the keeper dropping the ball and Ben Lineker Dudley converted it for the win.

Most of the boys deserved man of the match but Colby was chosen due to his work rate and the importance of his finishing which helped secured Pointon’s third place spot with games in hand to the teams above them.

Next week Pointon take on Sibsey Youth who are undefeated so far.
