THE only slip-up by a home defence that otherwise played very well, gave the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead.

The goal came 11 minutes before the break and before then, there had been little pressure on either goal, such was the dominance of the two sets of defences.

There was just one superb save from home keeper Dougie Lindberg who had a fine match throughout, as he went full stretch to his left to keep out an effort from Jamie Graham after good work from tricky number 11 Avelino Viera.

The goal came when Northern Star striker and leading scorer Karl Gibbs found himself near the 18-yard line and completely unmarked.

Before anyone came forward to close him down he had controlled, turned and slammed a shot past Lindberg.

Town tried to answer and one decent attack saw Charlie Ward make ground on the right before sending over a hard, low cross, the ball bouncing off the shins of Liam Tunstall to go wide.

Lindberg saved again as defender Mark Cox came forward to try a shot, then Town’s returning Ryan Oliver flicked a header through but the other returnee Pete Sutton hit high and wide across goal. HT 0-1

Into the second half and Town never stopped trying to play football against a decent opposition. Tunstall hit over on the run and a free-kick from Sutton came back off the crossbar.

Sutton went off for young substitute Harry Ginniff just as Tunstall tried again with a long shot to the keeper. Michael Musson went on and almost scored with his first touch but was beaten by the advancing keeper.

Three minutes after the scheduled ninety the visitors scored a second goal which gave them a rather flattering scoreline.

With the home defence all pushing forward, Viera finally found the room to collect, run through and hit past the stranded Lindberg. FT 0-2
