ONCE again the tricky playing surface caused problems and Town’s early habit of back-passing to Doug Lindberg made life difficult for the keeper in his attempts to clear.

Nonetheless, Town began well and made the early running even though it took 15 minutes for the first goal attempt, a shot high and wide from Charlie Ward.

Thrapston answered with two long shots, Pendered missing the foot of the post and Jamie Russell striking the back stanchion.

It was nip and tuck to half-time and played at a fair old pace.

Simon Bolland had a shot fumbled for a corner and Jason Sedlan crossed for Adam Fenton’s flick header to be cleared. Liam Tunstall had a half-chance as he turned but under-hit straight at the keeper.

For Thrapston, Randall touched wide as he slid in at the far post, then he turned to hit over the top. Right on half-time Town’s Sam Husband cut inside to send a shot past the far post.

Into the second half, with a Bolland shot palmed away for Tunstall to try an overhead.

Tunstall then sent a volley just over the top and hooked the ball inside for Bolland to have a shot superbly saved by keeper Jones. Tunstall then retired for substitute Jamie Shaw.

At the other end Thrapston’s Russell had an angled shot skim along Lindberg’s crossbar and full-back Melling hit over the top.

With the contest three-quarters gone, Town found the vital goal. A Shaw free-kick found the classy Sedlan, who served a perfect ball to the far post where Kris Jones sneaked in to head home.

Thrapston pushed for the equaliser and home defender Joe Braithwaite came in with a vital saving tackle when visiting substitute Morgan might have scored.

Michael Musson went on for Bolland just as Husband made a run down the right to send a long shot past the far post.

Right at the end came the real points saver when a hard shot from Morgan hit the far post, the ball running loose for Russell at point-blank range.

Keeper Lindberg pulled off a simply stunning save to send Town to the final whistle with the victory assured.
