Playing away at Spilsby, Pointon under 15s paid the price for missed chances.

They went down to a goal in each half, to lose to league leaders Spilsby Under 15s 2-0.

With five regular players unavailable, the Blues of Pointon were down to a skeletal squad, but they put up a good performance against quality opposition.

The home start started in a lively manner, testing Jed Humpries in the Pointon goal on several occasions.

Blues’ first real chance came after 20 minutes, but Alex Nelms’ long range shot flew over the bar.

The Pointon defence was stretched regularly by the speedy home number seven and was called upon to clear from the line just before another good shot rattled a post.

Inevitably Pointon conceded after 25 minutes, but they grew in strength as the half progressed, Alex Belmrose and Ben Shilling thwarting a number of attacks with some quality tackling.

Connor Nelms replaced Jamie Cross at half time, adding extra fire power up front for Pointon, Callum Boyfield had a good free kick saved by the home keeper and Mike Fleming shot just high of the target mid-way through the half.

Pointon enjoyed the lion’s share of the play in the second half and threw everything at Spilsby in the final 10 minutes, with Fleming using his pace to latch on to a couple of long balls from midfield and Connor Lindley toiling hard without managing to break through a stubborn home defence.

But, just as an equaliser seemed imminent, and with the final kick of the game, a deflected shot flew into the net to give the hosts a slightly misleading two goal victory.
