Sleaford Town JFC to launch new girls' teams

Sleaford Town Junior Football Club are to host an All Girls' Football Festival at Eslaforde Park from 6pm to 8pm on Friday.

The club is looking to recruit players of all ages and abilities to form new teams and will offer weekly coaching ahead of the 2017/18 season through the Lincolnshire FA’s Girls and Goals programme.

Sleaford Town’s junior development officer Lee Mitchell will head the coaching and will be joined by other qualified coaches from the club and former Lincoln Ladies players.

Lee said: “There are a large number of girls playing at our local schools and wanting to play for a club, but with nowhere to go, so we want to put girls’ football back on the map in this area.

“We used to have a successful girls’ programme with teams at three different age groups which faded away for a number of reasons, so we will make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Lee has coached girls’ and ladies’ football for more than 10 years.

He added: “Now it’s even more personal as I have four daughters of my own, so I would like to build a programme where they can play if they wish along with many others locally.

“We have a number of female coaches that have played to a good standard locally who are keen to get involved and give back to the game, so the new generation of girls will have role models to look up to.”
