Sleaford Town 3

Wellingborough Town 3

HAVING slumped to a 6-0 defeat to this opposition in the away fixture in August, Town nonetheless began by taking Saturday’s game to their visitors.

Yet Wellingborough took the lead from a direct free-kick on seven minutes, with Mark Redding hitting low from 25 paces, the ball taking a slight deflection on its way past keeper Doug Lindberg.

Town had the help of a blustery wind in the first half, to which was added the dismissal of a Wellingborough defender for handball after 18 minutes.

A little earlier Simon Bolland had turned to hit straight at this same opponent with Town appealing in vain for a penalty. This time the referee did blow, dismissing Nathan Heycock as he pointed to the spot.

Liam Tunstall stepped up, kept his nerve and despatched his 15th goal of the season to make it 1-1.

On 20 minutes home centre-back Kris Jones grabbed his third goal in six games, taking advantage of a fumble by keeper Plows to easily head in to put Town ahead, a lead that held up to the interval.

Five minutes after the break Wellingborough drew level. It came out of nothing as Jason Turner sent a low ball into the area from the right, the ball deceiving Lindberg as it curled into the bottom far corner. (2-2)

Five minutes on and the visitors moved ahead following a corner from their left. Lindberg had the ball in his hands but dropped it at the feet of Turner for a simple tap-in, his 23rd of the season. (2-3)

Jones retired with an ankle problem for Paul Ward and Sedlan was replaced by new boy Luke Toner.

Wellingborough had a chance when Ward allowed Turner through to goal but Beadles came in with a superbly-timed challenge, one that had to be just right.

Shaun Popple came close with a snap shot then Turner tried a direct free-kick that went just wide.

Jamie Shaw replaced Michael Musson and four minutes from the end of normal time he grabbed the point.

Adam Fenton squeezed a ball forward and to the left of goal, where Shaw showed all his old panache as he somehow turned in a shot from an almost impossible angle to earn Town a 3-3 draw.

Sleaford Town (4-4-2): D Lindberg; T Beadles, K Jones, J Braithwaite, A Fenton; S Bolland, J Sedlan, S Popple, S Husband; M Musson, L Tunstall. Subs: P Ward, L Toner, J Shaw
