TOWN went ahead inside two minutes when Jason Sedlan linked with Liam Tunstall, the ball going in off the heel of a visiting defender.

Rather than pressing home this slice of luck the home side seemed reluctant to go forward and almost allowed Daventry to come at them.

Left-wing danger-man Will Briscoe looked like causing concerns and he had one angled shot held by keeper Doug Lindberg. At the other end a rare Town attack saw Joe Braithwaite rise to a corner, bringing a fine save.

Daventry pressed forward but, despite all their play, they were woefully short of finishing power, missing leading scorer Waldock through injury.

They had two chances from free headers, Hynes missing from close range, then defender Crockett meeting a free-kick to turn the ball wide.

Meanwhile, Jason Sedlan had to retire for Sam Husband.

In a spell of yellow cards, the referee brought out his red card to dismiss the Daventry manager from the dug-out for a verbal offence. It remained 1-0 at half-time.

The visitors began the second half strongly and forced two corners. Keeper Lindberg was back to his familiar best, making one very good save from Briscoe after a typical strong run. Hynes then hit past the top angle.

Gradually Town took over, as Toner exerted his influence. Tunstall sent a shot over the top then delivered a good cross with no-one there to finish.

On 70 minutes Toner was felled inside the area. The referee blew for the penalty and Tunstall despatched his spot-kick straight down the middle to make it 2-0. Town continued to create openings while Daventry had just one further chance when Briscoe crossed, the ball a whisker out of reach of striker Lorraine.

Eight minutes from time Toner hit through the channel where Husband crossed for Michael Musson to head goalwards. The keeper turned the ball onto the bar but Musson followed up for his third goal of the season. (3-0)

Town(4-4-2): D Lindberg; T Beadles, K Jones, J Braithwaite, D Tunnicliffe; S Bolland, L Toner, S Popple, J Sedlan; M Musson, L Tunstall. Subs: S Husband, J Shaw, P Ward
