Pointon under 15s enjoyed plenty of possession and created a number of chances in their game at Boston United under 15s but ultimately struggled to convert the final ball.

Although Jacob Benton had a shot blocked by the keeper’s legs early on, Boston had the best of the chances in the first half. However, long range efforts were comfortably dealt with by Jed Humphries in the Pointon goal.

The deadlock was broken after 25 minutes, with a Boston striker taking full advantage of some chaotic Pointon defending for a soft opening goal.

The home side piled on the pressure early in the second half and Humphries was again called upon to make some vital saves.

Pointon grew in confidence as the half progressed and Cameron Atkinson saw his header go just wide of the post.

Boston struck again after an incisive move along the left, but Pointon fought back immediately, with Lewis Farrell scoring from the penalty spot after Alex Nelms was brought down in the box.

Pointon had an extra striker for the final 15 minutes and pressed hard for an equaliser but Boston held out to win 2-1.

* On Sunday, Pointon Under 12s went down 2-0 to Caythorpe and Fulbeck in a cup tie.

Caythorpe’s goals came from two breaks within five minutes in the first half and although Pointon dominated the second half they couldn’t break through.
