Baxter wins Bradley Cup

THE ladies got their season started with matches and cup competitions.

The EWGA medal was won by Joan Carpenter with 36 points, beating Debbie Smith on a count-back.

A second medal was won by Liz Drayton with a net 69, beating Glenda Budd (net 72) into second place. Glenda’s second place was sufficient to win the Top-Dog prize, a season long competition to find the most consistent lady golfer.

The Trafford Trophy was won by Gill Lamming with a fine 40 points, with Hayley Taylor in second place on 35.

Helen Prue won the Slee Trophy with a score of 39 points. Debbie Smith finished second place on count-back with 32.

The Daily Mail Foursomes pairing of Eilen Phipps and Eveline Hayler continue to make progress and are now through to the third round. The first round was played away at Blankney, with the Sleaford pair winning 7 and 5. The second round, at home, resulted in a win over a Stoke Rochford pair by 5 and 3.

n The Sleaford senior section entertained Lincoln Golf Club and the match was halved. Winning pairs were Bob Braban and Peter Gresham, 1 up, Pat Flemming and Mike Palmer, 4 and 3, Hugh Court and Fred Bristow, 5 and 4. Bob Lee and Tony Blythe and Tony Masters and Mike Rushby both halved.

n The first cup competition of the men’s season took place on Sunday.

The Bratley Cup, an individual medal competition, was won in fine style by Iain Baxter with a net 65 off a handicap of 7. He beat Mike Dickens, also on 65 (73-8), on a count-back.

In Division One, Oliver Harrod, Josh Taylor and Geoff Burnett took the minor places.

Division Two winner was Conor Thompson with a net 66, with Paul Wilkinson on 67 (83-16) taking second place.
