Sleaford Golf Club
A very successful fund-raising day was held at Sleaford recently for Tom Rastall, who is making his way on the professional circuit.
A large field representing all sections of the club competed for an excellent prize table, many being donated by local businesses and members. The overall winner was Will Hopkins, who scored 43 points playing off a handicap of 13.
In Division One, John Sabin scored (40), Steve Rust (39), Mark Hipworth (38) and Paul Carpenter (37) took the minor prizes.
In Division Two, Ray Green, Mark Wilson and Andy Bett all scored 41, with Ray taking first place on a count-back. Alan Hunt (40) and Stuart Sedman (37) took the remaining prizes.
The ladies’ section prizes were closely contested, with Joan Carpenter and Debbie Smith both scoring 34, Joan winning on a count-back. Jane Jones and Glenda Budd both scored 32.
Josh Taylor, on 36, finished four clear of Dan Hare, on 32, to win the junior prize.
Other prizewinners: Kev Blow - nearest the pin on the 5th; Jim Campbell - nearest the pin on the 12th; Neil Pinfold - nearest the pin on the 15th; Di Grocock - nearest the pin in two on the 18th.
n The annual competition in memory of George Churms was won by Di Grocock with 37pts. Nigel Prue (36) was second, with Ken Squires, Martin Chambers and Tom Russell all scoring 35. Wendy Lawson, on 34, won the ladies’ prize.
* There was a field of 89 players for the June midweek Stableford, with Nick Lawson taking the honours on 43. In Division One, Steve Hamblin scored 42 to finish second, with Lee Morton (41), Liam Orley (40) and Rob Corder (39) just behind.
Division two winner was Ian Ward with a fine 42 points. Ian Kay was second with 41 and Gavin Hutson and Malcolm Hayler shared third place on 40.
n The July midweek Stableford again produced a large field, with Rob Corder taking first place on 39, narrowly beating Steve Lawson with 38. Brian Whitchurch, Josh Taylor and Martin Chambers shared third place with scores of 37.
In Division Two, Chris Houghton led the way with 38. Keith Appleyard was a close second on 37. Chris Green, Neil Burton and Gary Fraiser all scored 35.
n Sleaford’s A team have had mixed results in the last two weeks. In an away fixture at Boston they lost 5.5 to 0.5, with Luke Hunt and Jason Barnett securing the only point.
In a reversal of fortunes they beat Burghley Park by 5.5 matches to 0.5 in their latest match. Sleaford’s winning pairs were Luke Hunt and Jason Barnett 3/2, James Burnett and Martin Chambers 7/5, Richard Burnett and Steven Hamblin 2/1, Mark Hipworth and Josh Taylor 5/4 and Doug Coote and Tom Collyer 5/4. Jimmy Smith and Ollie Harrod halved their game.
