Saunders’ President’s Day success

THE Seniors Invitation event at Sleaford was well supported with Des Heyes and guest John Chain taking first place.

Second were Peter Gresham and guest Baz Richmond, with David and Peter Tyler third. Howard Sanders won nearest the pin on the 5th; Gerry Walsh was closest to the 13th in two and Peter Trafford hit the straightest drive on the 16th.

n In matches against Greetham Valley and Blankney, Sleaford seniors finished second best.

At Greetham Pat Flemming and John Blythe and Peter Elliott and Richard Higgs managed wins, while at Blankney Brian Cuthbert and Tony Masters were the only victors.

n The ladies’ section Tuesday Medal and Joan Romaine Trophy was won by Lynn Inman with a net 73 off a 23 handicap, with Gill Lamming on 74 (83-9) runner-up.

n In a mixed handicap match against Spalding, Di Grocock and Glenda Budd and Val Clarke and Rita Hare secured wins for Sleaford, while Sandy Fullerton and Liz Drayton and Lynn Inman and Di Heyes achieved halves.

n The EWGA Stableford was won by Di Grocock with 37 points, beating Wendy Lawson into second place.

n On the Lady President’s Day, 36 ladies took to the course in teams of three. Scoring 66 points, the three ball of Jane Jones, Sharynne Pretty and Margaret Whiston took first place, with Joan carpenter, Sheila Wheeldon and Chris Webster coming second on 60.

n Geoff Hazelwood’s President’s Day was a great success with all sections of the club taking part.

On Saturday Rhys Meyers took first place in the junior section with Jack Flatters taking the runner up prize.

In the main event, Tim Saunders was first with a score of 40 points. Oliver Sherlock was first in Division One, with Peter Gresham second and Lee Driver third. In Division Two, Brian Cuthbert with 36 took first place, John Davies was second and Terry Marshall third.

The nearest the pin prize was won by Derick O’Leary. In the ladies’ section Helen Prue won the overall first prize with 36 points. In the Silver section, Janet Suiter was first, Sharyn Gamble second and Sue Palmer third, while the Bronze section was won by Kate Graves, with Thelma Lee and Sharynne Pretty taking the 2nd and 3rd places. Nearest the pin was won by Kate Graves.
