Harvey has high hopes of success at Silverstone
TALENTED teenage racer Jack Harvey heads to Silverstone this weekend hoping for more good results in the latest rounds of the Formula BMW Europe Series at the British Grand Prix.
The 17-year-old Racing Steps Foundation supported racer totally dominated the previous event at Valencia in Spain, taking pole position and winning both races, moving him into a 33-point lead at the head of the championship standings.
The Silverstone weekend has been the one that Jack has been looking forward to most since the start of the season.
His current form and results make him the man to beat and on home soil he is keen to repeat his Valencia success in front of the British fans at what is his favourite circuit.
Jack, from Bassingham, said: "I've said all year long that if there was one event I really wanted to do well at, it was Silverstone.
"It's my home race and circuit and I and the team want to go out and win. I want to step onto the top step of the podium in front of the British Grand Prix fans. Every driver wants to do well at his home event."
Despite racing at the same track last year, Jack, along with the rest of the Formula BMW grid, will have a new challenge this season - the all-new layout of the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
However, in pre-season testing, he was one of the first drivers to ever sample the new asphalt and he is looking forward to going head-to-head with his rivals on next weekend.
He added: "It's a fantastic circuit. I liked the old layout to be honest and when I heard that corners like Abbey and Bridge weren't part of it any more it was a bit of a disappointment.
"But, after driving on it before the season got under-way, I can see it's a good layout. The run down into Brooklands is going to be really fast and will give the crowds some good overtaking to watch, I think.
"I can't wait to get out on track and pick up where we left off in Valencia."In the run-up to what is likely to be his busiest weekend of the season, Jack has been spending most of the past week rubbing shoulders with some of the top names in the motorsport at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The 17 year-old was on the BMW stand throughout the weekend and met various people from Formula One, including BBC F1 anchor Jake Humphrey and legendary former commentator Murray Walker.
