For some, the number 13 may be unlucky, but not, it seems, for novice members of Acorn Judo Club.
For them it was a case of celebrations all round, as 13 members entered a junior and senior Low Grade Open Championship at Earl Shilton on Sunday, September 28 and each one of them came away with a medal.
Three of the four senior members were novices and were taking part in their first competition, while Beth Honeybun. who had just turned 16, won silver in her first competition at senior level.
Senior club coach, Julie Norman, who was refereeing at the event, praised the standard of judo she saw from the Acorn members, especially from seven of the members who were making their competitive debuts.
