Intrepid Sleaford Town Runners Ingrid Williams Jayne MacArthur, Sarah Whatton and Shaun Louth made the short trip to Grimsthorpe Castle to run the Grim Reaper Ultra Marathon.

The Grim Reaper is a 40-, 70- or 100-mile Ultra Marathon which takes place around 10-mile loops through the grounds of the castle. Jayne, Sarah and Shaun ran the 70-miler and debutante Ingrid the 40 mile event.

The challenging route was a mix of tarmac, limestone and bridal way, and fields.

Ingrid had a fantastic run for her first ever Ultra and completed the 40 miles in 8:32.

Jayne, Sarah and Shaun completed the 70 miles in 23:02, 22:59 and 23:02 respectively.

Shaun said: “The first lap seemed to fly by but by the second lap the sun was up in the sky and there seemed nowhere to hide from it.

“Laps five and six were completed in the dark, and by now blisters, fatigue and a little bit of madness had set in. As we started the seventh and final lap, we just wanted the run to end and it was a case of heads up and lets do this.”

l Three club members took part in the Summer Run Around The Reservoir Northampton.
