Marathon season is now well under way and Sleaford Striders athletes headed for Manchester last weekend, with eight members taking part in the full marathon and four participating in the relay over the same distance.

The first strider was Darrell Williamson in a personal best of 3hr 44min 21sec, a magnificent effort that followed an intense training regime. Jane James was the first Sstrider lady and next back in a time of 3.55.10.

Andy Dickinson, running through an earlier injury, managed a good time of 3.57.33. Hayley Bostock and Hannah North had worked really hard on their training and this paid off with a time of 4.06.12 and 4.06.18 respectively.

Josh Williamson continued to demonstrate a determination to succeed with a time of 4.35.43, whilst the ever popular Team Riddell – Ann and Graham – continued to show fantastic spirit with a time of 5.31.19.

Last week’s Sleaford Specsavers adult race series was a 10km run in Bourne Woods. The conditions were very hard with a lot of mud and an undulating course resulting in a lot of effort.

Twenty-two Striders took part with the outstanding performance coming from Alan Oliver, finishing second in a time of 35.30. Club coach, Maureen Runacres was first lady in a time of 51.32.

Others: John Siddons 37.52, Kevin Garrick 40.45, Adam Runacres 41.08, Dave Burton 44.06, Rob Caven 45.53, Bryan Brockington 48.05, Garry Wilson 50.33, Anna Thompson 52.31, Mark Sharpe 53, Andy Preston 54.26, Alan Buckberry 55.25, Val Oliver 1.01.30, Deb Priestley 1.05.52, Sally Hollick 1.07.29, Linda Melloy 1.08.23, Lucy Carpenter 1.11.22, Emma Carpenter 1.18.02, Carol Dudley 1.20.51, Mags Lennard 1.20.52, Michelle Hird 1.21.51.

Sleaford Striders very much appreciate the support given by Sleaford Specsavers in enabling the runners to participate in some of the races further away in the near future.
