Last weekend saw the second race of the Specsavers Sleaford Striders Adult Race Series with many club members taking part in the Gainsborough 10km race.

The runners were lucky that the weather was warm for a change, the sun was out and the sky was blue. The race itself took in the countryside around Morton and was very flat with the possibility of achieving a personal best – and some Striders did just that.

John Siddens was 13th overall out of 729 finishers and first Sleaford Strider home in 35min 39sec, and was also first in his age group. Close behind, but not close enough was his son-in-law Alan Oliver in 35.57.

Patrick James achieved a personal best in a fantastic time of 38.51, with Dave Burton following him in 40.22. Rob Caven finished the race in 44.05, Garry Wilson 46.43, Bryan Brockington 48.27, Anna Thompson 49.04 (first lady Strider), Mark Page 49.28, Andy Preston 51.21, Ian Starbuck 51.28, Graham Riddell 52.23, Clare Wells 54.43, Bill Rayner 54.53, Ann Riddell 58.32, Sally Hollick 1.05.52, and Carol Dudley who recorded a brilliant new personal best of 1.08.11.

Other Sleaford Striders dispersed far and wide. Matt Lennard took on the Retford half marathon and finished the race in 1.41.34.

Greg Sothern ran the Fleet half marathon, together with Iain and Dawn Bailey. Iain was first home in 1.12.14 with Greg finished in a magnificent time of 1.14.58 and finished as first vet. Dawn Bailey, in training for the London Marathon, completed the course in 2.05.23 and smashed her personal best.
