ATHLETICS: Sleaford Striders enjoy success in Specsavers Series

Specsavers Opticians in Southgate, Sleaford, are the proud sponsors of the Sleaford Striders Race Series and last weekend saw the penultimate event in that calendar, the Robin Hood half and full marathon.

With more than 6,000 entrants to the half marathon, the Striders came home with four runners in the top 50 finishers.

Iain Bailey completed the challenging and hilly event in a time of 1hr 13min 22sec, Chris North stormed home in 1.17.47, Alan Oliver took only 1.19.04 to finish the 13.1 miles, with father-in-law John Siddens making up the top four in 1.19.04 for 44th place. Many other Striders achieved personal, season or comeback best times.

The full marathon saw four Sleaford Striders take part and complete the 26.2-mile course in brilliant times.

Steve Thacker was the first Strider in 3.44.14, Darrell Williamson recorded 4.12.19, Vince McNiffe 4.21.08 and Ben Lilley 4.22.36.

On a windy but flat course closer to home, members of Sleaford Striders took part in the West Pinchbeck 10k race.

Anna Thompson was first to finish in 49.43.50, Andy Preston followed her home in 51.51.43 with his father completing the course in 1.00.24. Shirley Bell finished in 1.07.05 and Sally Hollick in 1.10.14.
