The annual National Cross Country Championships held at Donington Park, near Nottingham, saw more than 2,000 runners compete on a challenging course, amongst them representatives from Sleaford Striders Athletics Club.

For a change the weather was good for running but the ground still sodden, creating the potential for slippery conditions.

In the boys’ under-13 race over 3km, Harry Denton led the Striders home in 15min 2sec, followed by Josh Doran in 15.45 and Luke Saunders 22.33. The boys’ under-15 over 4.5km had Tommy Saunders completing the course in 27.06 and, over the longer distance of 6km, Jordan Williams ran a great time of 27.07 in the under-17 men’s event.

The senior men’s race had a massive turnout to run the 12km course. Iain Bailey was first Strider in an impressive 50.09, Dave Burton followed him in 62.32, along with Adam Runacres 63.17, Matt Lennard 76.17 and Ian Scott 78.38.

This weekend saw lone Sleaford Strider Jim Millar travel to Milton Keynes to take part in the Milton Keynes half marathon as part of the Festival of Running. This was his longest race for a while and he completed the 13.1-mile distance in 2.03.17.
