Ruskington Bowls Club only had three league matches last week, but they won two of them.

The first match was a home fixture versus Heighington in the City (evening) League.

Jock Mitchell with Trevor Thackray and Les Warren were in dominant form and won 25-14. That 11-shot win was exactly balanced by George Freeland’s set of Keith Pilbeam and Andy Snoxell losing 11-22. Tony Codd with Jim Barclay and Jackie Ray won narrowly by taking the last five ends and scoring nine shots to finish 18-16 up. But Ruskington’s final set of Dave Woods with Mike Kennedy and John Hurst went down 12-20 so they lost the aggregate and only claimed four league points.

Ruskington’s second match was a trip to Brant Road for a Cliff League fixture.

Sue Mitchell with Tony Codd and Jackie Ray won 19-15, and Wendy Pateman with Mike Kennedy and Jim Matson scraped in with 14-13. Jock Mitchell’s set of John Hurst and Trevor Harding were well beaten, ending 11-22 down, but Waylon Clarke with Keith Pilbeam and Vic Farmer had a crushing victory with 30-11, so Ruskington returned home with 12 league points.

Last was a visit from Rustons for a City (afternoon) League match. This was the return leg, Ruskington having ben well beaten at Rustons earlier in the season.

Jim Barclay with Isabel Drain and Graham Croft dropped two on the final end thus conceding a draw at 14-14. However, Les Jenkins with Carl Croft and Jim Matson won easily at 20-14, fighting off a big comeback by their visitors who were 14-0 down after the first six ends. Waylon Clarke with Les Wilkinson and Zack Thompson completed the picture with a win at 22-16, to give eight league points to the home team.
