David Houlton, of South Kyme Golf Club, is one step nearer an appearance at the famous Gleneagles course after winning his club’s qualifying competition for the Lombard Trophy.
David won the qualifier with a nett 73 and he will be heading off with South Kyme’s professional, Peter Chamberlain, for the regional final at Little Aston Golf Club on May 29. There they will compete against up to 70 other clubs for the chance to secure one of 16 spots available for the 36-hole final at Gleneagles in September and the chance to tread the fairways of the PGA centenary course.
The Lombard Trophy is the largest pro-am event in Europe, with more than 700 clubs in Great Britain and Ireland taking part.
David, 64, has been playing golf for more than 20 years and plays off a handicap of 17, while Peter, 48, has been a professional at South Kyme for 24 years.
* In the South Kyme Golf Club ladies’ section, Sue Roberts and Heather Dopierala, defeated a pair from Woodhall Spa in the Daily Mail Foursomes.
Winner of the EWGA April Sunday Medal, with a nett 72, was Sue Roberts. Second was Sue Annibal (73) and third Helen Kirschner (76).
The Tuesday Medal was also won by Sue Roberts, with nett 71, ahead of Sue Duncan (73), second, and Sue Annibal (76), third.
Winners of the annual Easter Egg competition were Sue and Geoff Annibal, with Anne Husthwaite/Robin Brown second and Anne and Chris Clayton third. The Nearest the pin winners were Len Westlake, Anne Clayton, Heather Dopierala and Phill Johnson on 14. Overall nearest the pin was won by Heather.
