Day of golf for the Jubilee

THE Queens Diamond Jubilee was celebrated at Sleaford Golf Club with a day of golf.

All sections of the club were involved, with the prize winners taking home some fine engraved glassware to commemorate the day.

In the 0-14 handicap section, the winner was Frazier Lamb, with Nick Prue runner-up. The 15-28 handicap section was won by Gary Walton, with Wayne Bowler in second place.

John Baxter won the Over 60’s section, beating Robert Lee into second place, while Derek O’Leary won the over 75’s, with Colin Jackson the runner-up.

In the ladies’ section, Joan Carpenter won the Ladies’ Silver section, Wendy Lawson finished second.

The bronze section was won by Kathleen Beeton, with Sally Lloyd in second place, and winner of the junior prize was Martin Chambers, who narrowly beat Josh Taylor.

The mixed better-ball stableford was won by Neil Tunstall and Sally Lloyd, ahead of runners-up Ian and Ria Harkness.

* Sleaford A team were beaten away at Belton Park by 5 matches to 1. Only Geoff Burnett and Martin Chambers won their match against the team that are favourites to win the league.

* The June midweek stableford attracted a field of 75 golfers. The event was won in fine style by Oliver Sherlock, who just edged out Chris Campbell.

In Division One, the minor places were taken by Kuno Jackson, Doug Coote and Stuart Graves, while in Division Two Conor Thompson was first with 40 points, just ahead of Trevor Kenyon and Paul Harland, both on 39.

The gents’ silver putter was won by Carl Sylvester with a handicap reducing 44 and the best gross round of the day was by Jimmy Smith, who scored 42 off his two handicap.

Jai Henderson, Oliver Harrod and Martin Orley all scored 41.

In Division Two, Ian Addlesee, with 38 points, beat Spencer Bowman, Neil Burton, Dave Pell and Paul Ellis on count-back.
