Fifteen medals for swimming club and chance to meet Olympic star

Members of the South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club brought home 15 medals from their first meet of the season, crossing paths with double gold Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington on the way.

Nine swimmers from the club took part in the Robin Hood Open Meet Long Course Level One at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre earlier this month.

Medal-winners were:

l Will Swain, 14, who achieved gold in the 100 freestyle

l Luke Elliott, 15, who took five silvers (400 freestyle, 200 fly and 200 back, 100 fly, 100 back) and a bronze in 200IM.

l Tom Mitchell, 16, who won silver in 200 and 100 backstroke.

l Matthew Gray, 14, who tool silver in 200 backstroke and bronze in 50 backstroke.

l Alan Sumpton, 15, who achieved bronze in 50 breaststroke and 50 fly.

l Emily McCann, 12, who won bronze in her 50 breaststroke and 50 free.

Surprise guest on the weekend was swimming star Rebecca Adlington.
