Sleaford Golf Club
THE 2012 Ladies Invitation Day at Sleaford Golf Club was a great success all round, with a good field and some impressive scoring.
First place was taken by Val Clark and her partner Heidi Rees, from Belton Woods, with an excellent 44 points. Second place went to Gina Pickworth and Chris Fletcher from Gainsborough with 37.
Two pairs finished on 35, with Glenda Budd and Brenda Silverson beatingTracey Harrison and Tracey Siddle on count-back. Di Grocock and Barbara Robinson were fifth place with 34.
l The Australian Spoons competition was won by Madelein Fenemore and Sadie Marshall and they will now progress to the regional final.
l An 18 hole stableford competition was won by Jane Jones with 36 points, beating Helen Butterfield, also with 36, on a count-back. The nine hole competition was won by Sheila Faulkner, with Angela Walsh taking second place on count-back.
l Sleaford’s seniors team had a good win away at Luffenham Heath by 4.5 matches to 3.5.
Winning pairs were Brian Cuthbert and Mike Duncan, Don Donovan and Mike Browning, Rob Lee and Ralph Mundy and Clive Boyfield and Bob Braban. The half was secured by Mark Huskinson and Tony Gordon.
Then, at home to Belton Park, Sleaford seniors inflicted the first defeat of the season on the visitors by 5.5 to 4.5. Winning pairs were Des Heyes and Tony Blythe, Mike Duncan and Hector Cole, Clive Boyfield and Richard Higgs and John Dixon and Hugh Court. Important halves were gained by Bob Braban and Tony Whiston, Bob Lee and Fred Bristow and Ralph Mundy and Geoff Roberts.
l The J E Blow Cup was won in fine style by James Grocock whose net 64 off a handicap of 64 beat all comers. In Division One, Mark Callow came second on 67 (85-18), with Jim Tilley and Mark Pinfold scoring net 68’s.
l The Mid-Week Stableford was won by Harry Bond with 45 points. In Division One, Michael Duncan and Richard Burnett took second and third places, both finishing on 41.
A fine 4 under par round by Richard was clearly the best of the day. Geoff Hazelwood and Tony Williams took the minor places with 40 points. In Division Two, Marshall Keir scored 43 and Mark Kyme and Andy Alvey both scored 41.
l Sleaford A team lost away to a very strong Spalding team by 4 matches to 2. Winning pairs were Mark Hipworth and Josh Taylor and Jason Barnett and Luke Hunt.
At home the B team suffered a narrow defeat by 3.5 matches to 2.5 to Belton Park. The only winning pair was Karl Kinsella and Carl Sylvester. Halves were gained by Dave Brownlow and Martin Orley, Mike Walton and Dylan Grocock and Andy Hill and Neil Tunstall, who were four up and four to play!
