A ROOKIE athlete has discovered a talent for track events after taking up athletics for the summer.
Twelve-year-old Francesca Wilson, from Heckington, competed in the Lincolnshire County Athletics Championships at The Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham.
Despite it being only her second outside athletics event, Francesca won the girls under 13s 100m, 200m and long jump, beating her personal best in the long jump by 32cm with a winning leap of 4.17m. She was also second in the 70m hurdles,
The results were even more impressive given it was the first time Francesca had competed in the 100m, 200m and hurdles events.
Francesca, a Year Seven pupil at Kesteven and Sleaford High School, started training at Grantham Athletics Club just one month ago. She was part of the High School team that won the Indoor County Aviva championships in April.
Her main sporting passion is football and she was the leading goal scorer for Sleaford Town Under-13 girls’ team this season.
With the football season at an end, Francesca decided to try athletics over the summer to keep fit for next season and has discovered that she has a talent for another sport.
