INDOOR BOWLS: Sleaford are defeated at Boston

Ray Bale’s set of Betty Bowyer and Barbara Clarke went 1-12 down before pulling the score back to 14-17. But the home set had a magical spell on end 17, picking up eight shots to leave the Sleaford set behind, 15-28.

Lily Searle, joined by Ken Searle and Jenny Elphick, were somewhat shell-shocked by Boston taking the lead 0-18 after seven ends, and the opposing set just kept scoring heavily with little respite to win 6-27.

The set of Pauline Hansen with Gloria Davies and Andrew Morris took an early lead, 4-3 after five ends, but this was short lived when their opponents then began to dominate, building a good lead to finish 9-22 winners.

Keith Richards, playing with Joan Bales and Diane Watson, dropped seven shots on the fourth end to allow the Boston set to take a 2-8 lead. Although the gap closed to 8-11, a barren run over a period of six ends left Sleaford too far behind, losing 11-20.

Ken Allen’s set of Ann Darwin and Colin Lambert started off with a five shot lead but Boston plugged away, picking up five shots on the 10th end and a further five shots on the 17th end to seal the game 12-21.

The team of Nigel Moxon, Barbara Leonard and Terry Wallis only managed to win six ends of the 18 played, resulting in a 9-20 defeat.

As usual on these occasions, the match was played with good spirit and friendship, everybody enjoying the sit down meal after the game. Boston are looking forward to the return match at Sleaford.

n Sleaford Indoor Bowls Club invite anybody interested in bowls to go along to their free Family Fun Days on the November 12 and December 3, 10am-2pm.

Special guest on November 12 will be Robert Chisholm, a world ranked international who will be happy to give coaching advice and a demonstration. Also some club members will be available to meet and greet and give any assistance required.

This is open to all beyond the age of 10 and the club welcomes all members of the family.
