The winter netball league has come to a close and Sleaford Barge under-12s team have finished in first place, remaining undefeated throughout the season.

Their final match last Saturday was against Louth A, one of their toughest encounters and what a game to finish the league.

The team knew they had to win this game to finish top of the table, as Boston had only lost one game against the Sleaford side but were ahead on goal average.

The squad took to the court quite nervously and with some apprehension. In the first quarter, they made some silly errors because they were excited and lost their focus slightly. The quarter time score was 5-5.

In the second quarter, the Louth team were battling away and not making it easy for the Sleaford squad, matching them goal for goal, but the half time score was 10-8 to Sleaford.

With the score so very tight, the Sleaford team knew this was going to continue to be a difficult match with the third quarter ending 17-14 – only a three goal lead.

In the final quarter, the Sleaford side had to step up their game if they wanted to be outright winners. This they did and fought for every pass, interception and conversion to score goals, and they won the match 26-14.

They will be presented with their medals at the County Netball Presentation to be held at the Epic Centre, Lincolnshire Showground, in May.

Sleaford Barge under-12s squad this season comprised Jess Holmes, Alicia Benton, Saffron Brankin, Amelia Thompson, Annabel Beaverstock, Holly Williams, Molly Mountain, Olivia Sansom, Frankie Bennett, Hannah Woods, Hannah Sabin and Neve Shore.
