Oliver smashes personal best

THERE was a strong Sleaford Striders’ contingent in the record field 5,500 competitors for the City of Lincoln 10k.

The event comprised a two-lap circuit taking in the medieval areas of the city along the cliff top, finishing in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.

No fewer than 34 Striders took part, with Alan Oliver the first of these to finish in a storming personal best time of 33:59, almost two and a half minutes faster than last year, to come 15th overall.

Junior Strider, Samuel James, produced a strategic race well beyond his years to outsmart vet Graham Park on the finish line, both achieving PB times of 40:06 and 40:08 respectively to finish in the top 200.

n The 14th Friskney Half Marathon attracted 20 members of the Sleaford Striders club.

Maintaining his very impressive form, Alan Oliver finished third overall, winning the senior prize, with a time of 1:16:59.

Second strider home was David Burton in a personal best time of 1:33:01 to finish 50th.
