The event, organised by Sleaford Striders, started and finished at RAF Cranwell.

A total of 577 runners completed the 13.1 mile race, having negotiated roads, muddy tracks, hills and strong winds.

The race itself was won by Chris Nicol from Derby Tri with a time of 1 hour 14 minutes 58 seconds. He was followed home by Dan Hardy of Totley Athletics Club, who finished second in a time of 1.15.53, with Les Ball of Lincoln Wellington (1.16.17) in third place.

The first lady home was Phillipa Taylor of Nene Valley Harriers in 1.27.58.

The team prize for men was won by Lincoln Wellington, with the ladies’ team prize going to Grantham RC.

The first Sleaford Strider to finish was Sandy Telfer, in 1.29.28, with the first lady Strider Hannah Shepherd (1.53.23). Other striders competing were: Rob caven (1.43.19), Darrell Williamson (1.53.23), Alan Buckberry (1.58.54), Carolyn Barnes (2.04.25) and Leanne McHugh (2.20.01).

Race director and chairman of Sleaford Striders Matt Lennard said: “I am very pleased that the race went so well and that the runners enjoyed the challenge.

“The many volunteers from Sleaford Striders helped make this event a great success. In particular I would highlight Andy and Ted Preston for their assistance in the weeks and months leading to the race.”

In addition to Sunday’s half marathon, there was also a fun run, which this year attracted a record entry of 76.

The youngest finisher was Caitlin L’Anson, aged just 21 months, who finished in 20.09. The race was won by Harry Denton of Sleaford Striders in 11.29, followed by Nauris Veits in 11.50 and Ashley Rooke in 12.26.

As part of their training for the forthcoming Manchester Marathon and other such events, a number of Sleaford Striders took part in the Stamford 30, a race organised each year close to St Valentine’s Day. Among the mementos given for finishing was a packet of Love Heart sweets.

First Strider to finish was Sandy Telfer, in a time of 2.11.51. Next home were Dave Burton (2.18.21) and Andy Dickinson (2.28.40).

Emma Marshall-Telfer was the first lady Strider lady to finish. Her time was 2.29.18. Other Sleaford Striders taking part were Simon Jackson (2.32.53), Hannah Shepherd (2.49.33), Darrell Williamson (2.49.32), Anna Thompson (2.57.35), Ann Riddell and Graham Riddell both on 3.24.54.
