Sleaford RFC ladies held a very successful recruiting night on Wednesday at the club’s grounds on Ruskington Road.
With excellent support from the RFU, who delivered 20 new team shirts to the ladies’ team, some 12 regulars and 10 new ladies enjoyed a training session that involved some fun elements, developing situational awareness and ball handling skills, as well as general fitness training. Sleaford RFC chairman Edward Money was also on hand to welcome the new players and watch the training.
With coaching from RFU coach Nathan, and the team’s own coaches – husband and wife team Pete and Sam Olliver – all the ladies obviously really enjoyed the session and repaired to the bar afterwards for a quick drink and to get to know each other before heading home. The team have already planned and held their first social event, meeting for a meal and drinks at the Jolly Scotchman pub near Holdingham roundabout on Friday night.
Everyone associated with the club and the ladies’ team in particular is very excited about the team’s potential for the forthcoming campaign, and the club has been selected as one of the RFU’s target teams for South Lincolnshire for the season, so the ladies can be sure of excellent support throughout.
With six fixtures already confirmed and at least two more under discussion, it promises to be a fantastic season for the ladies at Sleaford RFC, with a very real prospect of fielding two teams this year.
