More ECB misery for Sleaford
Sleaford Cricket Club IN their Lincolnshire ECB Premier Division game against Market Deeping 1st XI on Saturday, Sleaford 1st XI got off to a good start.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Sleaford were given a solid opening by Shorthouse (25) and Burford (30). However, neither batsman was able to go on to make a more significant score.
Their departures brought about a massive collapse as Sleaford were bowled out for 151 inside 37 overs, with only Cope providing any resistance. He defied the Market Deeping attack with a stubborn 41 not out but he ran out of partners.
After Sleaford again failed to post a competitive score, a shake-up to the batting order may be needed.
In reply Deeping didn't have it all their way, as Goacher, Cope and Bradford took a wicket apiece and Morris finished with figures of 2-12 from just five overs as the seventh bowler used.
In the end the total was way below par and it took Market Deeping less than 40 overs to knock off the required runs to end another miserable day for Sleaford firsts.
* Sleaford Sunday 1st XI travelled to Radcliffe for a battle of the top two teams in the Newark League.
Batting first Sleaford were given a quick-fire start by Joyce and Brewster who set about the opening bowlers.
Brewster was finally dismissed for 32 but Joyce continued the onslaught. He was joined at the crease by Gunawardena, who quickly smashed 60 runs, with his 50 coming off only 33 balls to set the mark for the quickest half century of the year so far.
The record was remarkably short lived when Roberts then joined Joyce and smashed an even quicker 50 off a mere 23 balls as Radcliffe were put to the sword.
Joyce batted through, going on to score an undefeated 128 as Sleaford finished on a massive 340-5.
In reply, Radcliffe's Australian star batsman took the attack to Sleaford and forced the visitors into very defensive fields. He was dropped twice on his way to a 40 ball 70.
He was eventually dismissed by some fine spin bowling from Rickett as he claimed four more wickets, and a total of eight for the weekend, with figures of 4-23 off his eight overs.
There were two wickets apiece for Burrows and Clarke, as Radcliffe fell 133 runs short in their 40 overs. It was a great result Sleaford as they make another title push.
* After a disappointing defeat the previous weekend, Sleaford 2nd XI came bouncing back against their Market Deeping counterparts at a windy, chilly London Road ground on Saturday.
Good opening bowling from Burrows and Noble provided two early wickets for Sleaford, with only 15 runs on the board from the first 10 overs.
Things got worse for Deeping as they lost wickets with alarming regularity. Only Andrews provided any resistance but, when he was dismissed by Goddard, it was all over for the visitors, who collapsed to 81 all out in the 32nd over.
Rickett was the pick of the Sleaford bowling, with figures of 4-24, while Goddard claimed two victims.
The opening partnership of Sneath and Brewster (32) set Sleaford on their way before Burrows (22no) and Noble (11no) guided them to yet another home victory and 20 more points with more than 40 overs of the match remaining.
* Sleaford Sunday 2nd XI were too strong for Spalding seconds.
Sleaford won the toss and decided to bat. Shorthouse (38), Hutson (61) and Lambert (41) provided the majority of the runs as Sleaford posted a score of 213-8.
Spalding never looked like reaching the target and impressive bowling from Goddard (3-37) and Kyme (4-17) saw Sleaford to another win to consolidate their position at the top of the table.
