On form Sleaford race to eight wicket victory

ENTERTAINING Lindum at London Road on Saturday, Sleaford treated the home spectators to a comprehensive eight wicket victory.

Batting first, Lindum got off to a rapid start, scoring at six runs an over, but good work in the outfield from Sam Burrows resulted in a run out that slowed proceedings down. That was followed soon after with a wicket for Morris.

Bansal and Hornsby put on 40 for the third wicket for Lindum until Bansal was removed by Bradford for 48. Bradford was unable to bowl soon after due to a shoulder injury but, with Miller claiming two wickets and an excellent second spell from Burrows (2-28), Lindum were restricted to 197-8 on a flat track with plenty of runs in it.

Burford and Shorthouse gave Sleaford the ideal start, putting on 53 for the first wicket before Shorthouse was caught brilliantly by Hornsby for 19. Sleaford's overseas player, Gunawardena, joined Burford at the crease and from then on the match was only going one way, with runs coming all round the wicket from both players.

Burford eventually fell for an excellent 85 with the winning post in sight, leaving Gunawardena to finish off proceedings with a six back over the bowler's head as he remained undefeated on 77.

It was an excellent win for Sleaford to follow up a comprehensive victory over Nettleham the previous week and it saw them move up a place in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League table to go above Saturday's opponents Lindum.

* Elsewhere in the Lincolnshire ECB League, a high scoring run chase saw Skegness move into second place.

The league's bottom club, Messingham, amassed what, in most cases, would have been a winning total of 245 before their final wicket fell. But Skegness are full of confidence following their successful start to their Premier League campaign and raced to a five wicket victory, with Nathan Docker hitting 100.

League leaders Bracebridge Heath once again topped the 300 mark, racing to 314 for five at Louth's temporary home at Owmby, but once again the reigning champions failed to bowl out the opposition.

Nick John hit 133 for Bracebridge, with Paul Cook blasting 58 off 22 balls, but Louth batted steadily and at the close had picked up a valuable six points with a score of 189 for five.

Results: Bracebridge Heath 314-5 (John 133, P Cook 58), Louth 189-5 (G West 93); Bourne 204 (Stroud 72, Carter 5-57), Nettleham 197-9 (Spinks 5-61); Market Deeping 193 (C Kearns 86, Warmoth 5-70), Caistor 171-8 (J Parker 89no); Messingham 245 (Scheepers 61), Skegness 248-5 (Docker 100); Lindum 197-8 (Hornsby 59), Sleaford 198-2 (Burford 85, Gunawardena 77no); Woodhall Spa 220-9 (Crook 98, Nel 53, Brown 5-46), Grimsby 224-4 (Perera 76)
