GOLF: South Kyme competition round-up

The first three months of the year saw most South Kyme Golf Club ladies' section competitions and matches either cancelled or postponed because of adverse weather conditions.

Shirley Westlake, a new name on the leader board, won the January Stableford with 36 points. Second was lady captain Sue Annibal with 35 and third was Myra Le Sage with 31.

Shirley was in winning form again for the February Monthly Medal. Runner-up was vice-captain Sue Duncan and in third place was Helen Kirschner.

The March Medal was won by Sue Duncan with 73 net, second was Helen Kirschner and Sue Annibal was third. The March Stableford was won by Sue Duncan with 32pt, on countback from Anne Clayton. In third place with 32 was Myra Le Sage.

The annual match against the Seniors’ section was lost.

The January meeting of the Mixed section started the season very well supported, with Joan and Alan Cowie scoring 48pt. Runners-up with 45 were Jane and Martin Coleman and Sue and Ray Duncan were third with 44.

The first friendly match of the year was played at North Shore where South Kyme were defeated.

The ladies hosted the first round of the Mail on Sunday against Pottergate Ladies, with South Kyme ladies winning. The second round was played at Boston West, with Boston West Ladies coming out on top.

The qualifiers for the Daily Mail Foursomes were Sue Annibal and Sue Duncan. The first round match was played at Boston West where, after a very hard played game, the home team won the match on the 18th hole.

Good Friday’s Mixed Easter Egg competition was well supported again this year, with the newly elected ladies’ captain Sue Duncan and husband Ray winners of the day with 39pt. In second place were Shirley and Len Westlake with 34 pt on countback from from Helen and Jody Kirschner, and Joan and Alan Cowie. Nearest the pin winners were Martin Cole, Jane Barlow, Helen Kirschner, Peter Zammit, with Helen being the overall nearest.
