SLEAFORD Golf Club Captain’s Day was a great success and although the weather could have been better, a large number of golfer from all sections of the club enjoyed the day.
Thanks to Club Captain, Lee Morton ably assisted by his wife Helen and a band of helpers, the day proceeded without a hitch. On Saturday, the Junior Captain’s Prize was won by Rhys Meyers.
In the main event, Mark Hipworth won first place with a gross 71. In Division 1 the first three places were taken by Jai Henderson, net 68, James Grocock, net 69 and Jason Barnett, net 70.
In Division 2, Wayne Bowler, net 68 was first with W J Banton, net 70 and Ian Ward, net 72, taking taking second and third places.
Nearest the line on the 16th, actually on it was Jason Barnett. Nearest the pin on the 15th was Martin Orley.
In the Ladies Section, Ann Lyon was first with a gross 88. The net prizes in the Silver section were won by Evelyn Hayler-75, Joan carpenter-76 and Jane Jones-77.
In the Bronze section Sally Lloyd-71 was first with Karhleen Beeton-82 and Thelma Lee-83 taking the minor places.
Nearest the line on the 16th was Sally Lloyd and nearest the pin on the 12th was Gill Moore. The charity collection on the day amounted to £380.
On Saturday, 119 golfers entered the June Stableford which was won in fine style by Mark Pinfold with a fine 43pts playing off his handicap of 10.
In Division 1 Peter Walker-6- pushed hard to take second place with 42pts with Oliver Harrod-3- 40pts taking third place.
In Division 2, Dave Quinn-15-42pts was first with Paul Harland-17-41pts and Ricky Houston 18-41pts taking second and third places.
The Senior Section were in action again this week winning well at home against Boston West Seniors by 5.5 matches to 3.5.
Winning pairs were, Des Heyes and Clive Boyfield, Brian Cuthbert and John Dutton, Fred Bristow and David Swaithe, Richard Hannah and Richard Higgs and Keith Appleyard and Tony Gordon. Dennis Welch and Tony Whiston secured a half.
Away at Torksey the group suffered a heavy defeat by 5.5 matches to 2.5.
Winning pairs were Mike Palmer and Les Wilkinson and Tony Masters and Mike Rushby. Peter Elliott and Frank Wykes halved.
