LOCAL racing driver Jack Harvey continued his strong start to the 2012 Cooper Tires British F3 Championship with a third place finish at the Grand Prix of Pau at the weekend, making it three podium finishes in as many race weekends

Starting in sixth place after qualifying for Saturday’s race, Harvey, from Bassingham, made a good start but, with virtually no overtaking opportunities on the narrow track, he was finding it difficult to make up any places. The a collision between Juncandella and Wehrlein on lap eight caused a bottleneck in the track as everyone had to stop suddenly at the hairpin.

The race was restarted with Harvey now fifth overall and third in the British F3 category, a position he held on to until the end of the race.

For Sunday’s race Harvey lined up eighth on the grid. Despite being nose to tail for almost the whole race with the cars in front of him, he was unable to find a way past on the twisting circuit and, after 33 laps of racing, he finished where he had started in eighth place overall and fifth in the British F3 class, picking up a further six championship points and moving up to third in the championship.

Harvey said: “It was my first time racing at Pau. It’s a fantastic circuit - challenging and so different to the other tracks on the calendar but a great place to race.”

Harvey is currently third in the championship with 83 points, behind series leader Sainz on 104 points and Jaafar with 101 in second place.

He is back in action at Rockingham on June 9 for the next round of the championship.
