SIDECAR driver Gary Horspole, with Robert Biggs, in the chair was forces to retire in the closing stages of the first of two races at Donington Park on Saturday while holding a strong sixth place.

He went on to claim 11th place in race two in round six of the 2012 Eastern Airways British Sidecar championship on Sunday to pick up a further five championship points.

Because of the non-finish in race one, Horspole, from Leasingham, was forced to start the second encounter from the ninth row of the grid in 17th place. But as the lights went out he soon began to make up ground and eventually brought the outfit home in 11th position to claim five championship points.

However, his non-finish in the first race affected his championship position, with Horspole dropping from ninth to 12th in the overall rider standings.

The next round is at Assen in Holland on September 23 when the British Superbike championship travels to Europe for the first time. Once again the sidecars will contest two races but the competition will be greater this time as a number of Dutch riders will be attending the event as well as some of the world championship riders who have now finished their series.
