More points for Harvey despite engine problems

LINCOLNSHIRE racing driver Jack Harvey picked up a further podium position and 12 more Cooper Tires British F3 championship points at the Spa-Francorchamps at the weekend.
Issues in free practice and qualifying, including having to sit out almost the entire first free practice session after suffering an engine misfire, saw Harvey, from Bassingham, line up out of position for the three races but the Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver was able to fight his way to a podium position in race one.
Spa-Francorchamps saw 29 drivers on the grid as the regular British F3 drivers were joined by the FIA European F3 championship contenders.
Race one on Friday morning saw Harvey make a great start and he was up to sixth from a starting position of 10th by the end of lap one. He eventually finished fourth overall and took the final podium position in the British F3 category.
The second race of the weekend was due to have taken place on Friday afternoon but, due to torrential rain and standing water across the track, it was cancelled.
Starting seventh on the grid for race three on Saturday morning Harvey moved up to sixth after one lap. He kept a clear head despite the tricky race conditions and, with Juncadella spinning on lap four, he was up to fifth.
By lap nine the rain began to fall heavily and the safety car was brought out for two laps. At the restart Harvey dropped to sixth, which he maintained until the chequered flag fell after 40 minutes of racing.
“It was a tough start to the weekend for us with the issues in free practice and then the incident in qualifying,” said Harvey. “This left us with a lot to do during the races so I’m pretty happy with a podium position from race one after starting 10th on the grid.”
Harvey heads to Snetterton this weekend for the next round of the British F3 Championship. He is currently second overall in the drivers’ standings on 208 points, just four behind current championship leader Serralles.
