Penalties a huge blow to Harvey’s hopes

Motorsport

RACING driver Jack Harvey endured a disappointing race weekend at Silverstone after post-race penalties saw the Bassingham driver lose out on two podium finishes and hinder his chance of a podium finish in race two.

In race one, Harvey snatched third place right on the final corner but stewards later deemed he had jumped the start and he was given a 30 second penalty, which relegated him to eighth.

On the opening lap of race two Derani and Harvey made contact, which allowed Seralles to take the lead and dropped Harvey down to third.

When Seralles went wide onto the grass on the penultimate lap, Harvey took the opportunity to move up to second place.

But, following the race, Harvey was heavily penalised for the opening lap incident with Derani and relegated to tenth place after receiving a 30second penalty. He was also given a five place grid penalty for race three.

That meant he lined up for the final race of the weekend in eighth place on the grid and, struggling for grip during the race, that was where he finished.

It was a hugely disappointing weekend for the Lincolnshire driver, who is now third in the Cooper Tires British F3 championship standings, 23 points adfrift with just one round left, at Donington on September 29.

Jazeman Jaafer leads the championship on 282 points, with Felix Seralles second on 276 and Harvey third on 259.
