GARY Horspole from Leasingham, with Rob Biggs in the chair, recorded a seventh and 11th place at Assen in Holland in round seven of the Eastern Airways British F1 sidecar championship over the weekend.

This gave Horspole and Biggs a further 14 championship points, bringing their tally to 72 for the season with two rounds remaining.

Making their debut at the Dutch circuit, Horspole and Biggs had to learn their way round the demanding circuit before they could concentrate on posting a fast lap time.

But Horspole, from Leasingham, is a quick learner and was soon on the pace qualifying the LCR Honda in 15th place for an eighth row start for the first 12-lap race on Saturday.

This was reduced to 10 laps due to a delay caused by track contamination in a solo event. Gary had moved up to 11th by lap four when the red flag halted the race.

When the race resumed. Horspole got a fantastic start and completed the first lap in ninth place and he picked up two more places to finish seventh at the chequered flag.

Starting the second race from row seven, Horspole didn’t get the start he wanted and he found himself in 11th place after the opening lap. From there, the race didn’t go to plan for the Lincolnshire ace who came in 13th at the end of the 12 laps.

But there was a twist in the tail because some of the Dutch sidecar riders had been racing alongside the British contingent but were not allocated championship points. Two Dutch competitors that finished ahead of Horspole were not included in the points, elevating him up to 11th to give him five championship points.

Going into the penultimate round at Silverstone this weekend, Horspole and Biggs are 11th in the rider standings and will be hoping to secure two strong results in their bid to end the season in the top 10.
